Welcome back to a new semester of learning for both new and continuing students here at TU. Today is the first day of classes which means time to meet new people and professors. This will be the day many of you receive your syllabi’s which contain all the essentials for having a successful semester and what you can be expected of, so get those daily planners out so you can stay on top of your work for a successful academic year. Make sure to keep up with due dates and upcoming exams and assignments so you can be prepared well in advance. New students should make their selves familiar with the location of their classes and places they will need to use a lot doing the school year so they can transition more easily. TU does not only want you to work hard, there are numerous amounts of fun and socializing events that will help round you into a success. Also this is the time to make your self aware of campus resources that can contribute to a smooth year of learning like the free tutoring centers for numerous subjects and the career center as well is the resources the library offers because the sooner you prepare the better. A scenario that comes to mind in this type of event, which is the beginning of the academic year, is losing your syllabi and then feeling as though it is not very essential and you can get by with out it and just get due dates from the professor but the truth is professors don’t always announce test dates because they expect you to take responsibility and to be aware of due dates and up coming assignments because they have provided you with the guideline of how class will go for the semester and if things change from the syllabus then it will be the professor that will make those adjustments known to the class. The way students begin the year should set a prime example for how they end the year. Be sure to check back again September 3, 2007 for more helpful hints and insight.
